GURA HUMORULUI “Through the presence of man, geographical places find a meaning, opening a path towards the persistence of history“
Gura Humorului is a beautiful little mountain town in the county of Suceava, situated at the bottom of the Bucovina mountains, near the clear and calm waters of the Moldova river. GURA HUMORULUI was first mentioned linked with the beginning of the monastery settlements of the monasteries Gura Humorului and Voronet, in the 15-th century.
Inhabited for a while by the monks of these monasteries and by a few peasant families, monastery neighbors, the settlement was occupied in 1774 by Austrian and Galician troops. The 6 decades of Galician administration dictated by Vienna, the population of the settlement with Austrian, later with Polish, Czech and Jew immigrants, leaves a strong and durable mark on the settlement.
Today, Gura Humorului, which became a mountain resort, is quickly developing towards the hospitality industry. The mountain landscape, the fresh and very clean air, the hills that are embracing the settlement, the valley of the river Moldova, the Moldova river meadow, the trails calling you to hike, the ski slope at Varvata, the authentic country households, the bell sleds, all these and more are invitations for a restful holiday.
If you are a traveler in a hurry in these parts, we have found an exceptional space for you to easily go back in time, where the centuries are unfolding in front of you, where you find out and wonder about the life of a capable and skillful people - the people from Bucovina.
